Word has been received of the June 6 death of John J. Cahir, a director emeritus of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Board of Directors. Cahir served on the board from 1993-2016, retiring as vice chair. Cahir worked at Penn State from 1965-2001, first as a meteorology faculty member and subsequently serving in a variety of administrative roles. He retired from Penn State as vice provost and dean for undergraduate education.
Laura A. Snyder, of Harrisburg, a May graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s landscape/plant production technology major, has attained Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist status after passing the formal exam required for certification. The PCH exam was administered on the last day of finals in early May by Carl J. Bower Jr., assistant professor of horticulture at Penn College. Snyder passed all four sections of the intensive test.
A reception for “Books Undone 2: The Art of Altered Books” was enjoyed by nearly 100 people on Sunday. The national juried exhibition is on display through July 21 in The Gallery at Penn College. Awards were presented to six of the 41 exhibiting artists from 20 states.
The Dr. Welch Workshop: A Makerspace at Penn College partnered recently with Remake Learning Days, an innovative learning festival for families and youth. A professional development workshop for public school educators was offered on May 15, and an open maker night for families was available on May 16.
An organization dedicated to women in the collision repair industry has awarded a scholarship to a Pennsylvania College of Technology student. Izzy S. Povod, of Palm Coast, Florida, was one of 30 individuals nationwide honored with a Women’s Industry Network Student Tuition and Conference Scholarship Award. A Dean’s List student, Povod received $2,500 toward tuition and a $500 tool grant.
A leading provider of welding power sources and solar solutions is continuing its support of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s welding program. Fronius USA is entrusting to the college 10 I-Wave 300 machines, units that facilitate multiple welding processes. The new machines are replacing units the company entrusted in 2019.

Two Pennsylvania College of Technology physician assistant studies students feel inspired and grateful following a recent clinical education rotation in Peru. Erin T. Braxton, of Berwyn, Catherine Coy, of Clifton Park, New York, spent five weeks in Trujillo, one of Peru’s largest cities. They completed their elective clinical rotation at Florencia de Mora hospital, with Braxton focusing on obstetrics and gynecology and Coy on pediatrics.
Students beginning their classes in Fall 2024 at Pennsylvania College of Technology are offered a special discount for taking a trio of in-person courses this summer. The “Jump-start Your Future” program is giving a 50% discount for students who enroll in developmental math, English and First Year Experience classes during the eight-week Summer 2024 session that runs Mondays through Thursdays, June 11 to Aug. 1, at the college’s main campus.

Niedermyer recently led an eight-hour class for artisan baking professionals at the Bread Bakers Guild of America’s annual Camp Bread, held over three days in Providence, Rhode Island. Niedermyer’s class was among those featured in Bake Magazine's coverage of the event.
