A Pennsylvania College of Technology junior has been awarded one of three $1,000 scholarships from an online community for accounting professionals. Steven W. Garner, of Lock Haven, pursuing a four-year degree in accounting from the college's School of Business and Computer Technologies, received his award from AccountingWEB.
Four students in Pennsylvania College of Technology's automotive technology management bachelor-degree major will receive a share of $112,000 in awards from the Specialty Equipment Market Association Memorial Scholarship Fund. Pennsylvania College of Technology will hold a commencement ceremony Saturday, Aug. 6, for more than 230 students who have petitioned to graduate after the college's summer sessions. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. Kenneth B. Kephart, of State College, has been selected as the student speaker for the ceremony.
During the waning days of summer Camp ESCAPE, four participants volunteered to read to youngsters at the Children's Learning Center. Campers also took part in a baking project and toured the facility, which recently was moved to the Hager Lifelong Education Center. The tour gave past Children's Learning Center students an opportunity to see the new surroundings and catch up with former teachers.
Robin J. Gordon, a Pennsylvania College of Technology student enrolled in the dental hygiene: health policy and administration major, was awarded a scholarship from the American Dental Hygienists' Association Institute for Oral Health. Gordon, of Duryea, was named a recipient of the Crest Oral-B Laboratories Dental Hygiene Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year.
A Pennsylvania College of Technology student who died in June will be memorialized through a scholarship fund at the college. The Luke James Haefner Memorial Scholarship Fund will be open to residents of Lycoming County who are full-time students in Penn College's information technology sciences-gaming and simulation bachelor-degree major.
About two-dozen vehicles owned by Antique Automobile Association of America members were displayed in the College Avenue Labs parking lot Monday, one of seven stops along the group's "Vintage Tour" through northcentral Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York state.
Pennsylvania College of Technology will expand its opportunities in welding education, thanks to a donation from Chesapeake Energy Corp. Chesapeake Energy presented Penn College with a check for $25,000 to purchase an engine-driven Lincoln welder, as well as a pipe beveling machine and associated supplies. Chesapeake also donated a supply of pipe for use in welding education.
