Faculty, student quoted in construction trade magazine

Penn College’s Wayne R. Sheppard, assistant professor of construction management, and student Noah H. Jumper, of Shippensburg, were quoted in an article published in the March issue of Construction Executive magazine.
In a story titled “Generation Yes: Recruiting today’s construction management students,” Sheppard and Jumper, a senior in the construction management major, offered insight to employers looking to hire upcoming construction management graduates.
The article cites Bureau of Labor Statistics figures that predict an average of about 38,700 construction management job openings each year over the next decade, putting pressure on employers to make sure they are a good fit for prospective employees.
“The number of opportunities per student is far in excess of the number of students we have,” Sheppard told Construction Executive’s David McMillin. “Most seniors have multiple offers, with many getting 10 or more. Companies should not wait until they are close to graduating. It’s critical for them to be invested in the program throughout their time here to build long-term relationships with the students and faculty and to get more brand recognition and to showcase their opportunities.”
