A member of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Board of Directors and his wife, an alumna of the legal assistant/paralegal studies program, have established a fully endowed scholarship at the college.

The Steve and Mary Ann Johnson Scholarship will benefit students who are enrolled full time; have served in the U.S. military, are on active duty, are enlisted in the Reserves or National Guard, or are dependents of a veteran who was 75-percent disabled or died because of their service; have an academic standing of sophomore or greater; and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.

The first scholarship from the fund is being awarded in the 2016-17 academic year.

Steve Johnson has served as president and CEO of Susquehanna Health since 2004. He has also served on the Penn College Board of Directors since 2010 and the Penn College Corporate Advisory Board from 2001-10.

Mary Ann Johnson graduated magna cum laude from the college’s Bachelor of Science legal assistant/paralegal studies major, and she was the first Penn College student or graduate to attain the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) professional credential.

“Mary Ann and I believe education is one of our nation’s most important building blocks for successful lives and healthy communities, and that Pennsylvania College of Technology’s commitment to applied technology is an extraordinary educational resource for the 21st century,” Steve Johnson said. “We also believe we are blessed to be a blessing and thank the Penn College family for the opportunity to endow a scholarship for students whose military service helps assure our nation’s continued freedom to provide these educational building blocks right here at home.”

“By endowing this scholarship, Steve and Mary Ann are helping qualified students complete their college education,” said President Davie Jane Gilmour. “We are most grateful for their continued support of Penn College and its mission.”
