Scholarship fund boosted through auction of handcrafted woodwork.A rocking chair, created by a pair of Penn College retirees to be auctioned for a Fall 2015 scholarship fundraiser, has caught the attention of Fine Woodworking magazine. Frederick T. Gilmour, a professional artist, college retiree and alumnus, designed the chair after seeing original work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh in Scotland. William F. Geyer, who retired in 2013-14 as a faculty member in the School of Construction & Design Technologies, used the sketches to make a prototype from poplar and the final piece from walnut. The chair, as well as a side table designed and built by Geyer, fetched a total of $3,675 at a Sept. 25 Penn College Foundation benefit in Madigan Library.
