An educator and researcher on the “sociology of the hip-hop generation” will bring his message of civic empowerment to Pennsylvania College of Technology’s main campus on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Ralph E. Godbolt, an adjunct faculty member at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, will present “Building a Legacy – Exploring Manhood, Education and Community Engagement in the Age of Hip-Hop” at 7 p.m. The free, public lecture will be held in Penn’s Inn, on the second floor of the college’s Bush Campus Center.

Ralph E. GodboltThe interactive talk will seek to challenge participants to examine issues of race, social justice, poverty, sexual orientation and gender by using hip-hop culture and music as a teaching tool. The lecture will also address community involvement and higher education by exploring W.E.B. DuBois’ “Talented Tenth” theory that one in 10 black men will assume leadership roles in society.

Godbolt is the co-founder, CEO and president of HIP HOP Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting low-income youth. His appearance is part of the college’s “Man Project,” a series of events allowing men to sincerely explore the concepts of masculinity and striving to offer them new ways of thinking about fatherhood, family, relationships, work/life balance and more.
