College's Community Connection Takes No Holiday

Members of the Penn College family – faculty/staff, students and alumni – are known for their civic involvement, and not even the hectic holiday season can douse that community spirit. Brian M. McKeon, assistant professor of biology in Penn College’s School of Integrated Studies, was an authentic "silent" partner in the recent 90th anniversary celebration at The Genetti Hotel, mutely engaging the crowd as screen luminary Charlie Chaplin. The gala event at the downtown Williamsport landmark also included desserts prepared by Chef Sue Major, assistant professor of baking and pastry arts and culinary arts, and her School of Hospitality students. A frequent on-stage performer and backstage volunteer, McKeon regains his voice in "Inspecting Carol," which begins a two-week run Friday at the Community Theatre League, 100 W. Third St. The comedy follows a struggling theater company through its disaster-laden production of "A Christmas Carol," complete with challenging actors and a Tiny Tim who has outgrown his part. The show also features several CTL veterans/Penn College graduates among its quirky cast of characters: James R. Carpenter (2007, computer information technology: internetworking application development concentration); Nicholas I. Buckman (2002, mass communications); and Keith A. Wagner (2002, computer information technology: data communications and networking concentration). The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7-8 and 13-15 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 16.
