The accreditation of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s two- and four-year accounting and business majors has been reaffirmed by the only organization that accredits institutions granting both baccalaureate and associate degrees in the field.

The college is one of 21 members of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs – and one of just two in Pennsylvania – to have its accreditation renewed during a recent annual conference in Baltimore, attended by Carolyn M. Jacobson, Penn College’s assistant dean of business and computer technologies.

Carolyn M. Jacobson, assistant dean of business and computer technologies, is joined by (from left) Ronald DeYoung, executive liaison to the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs’ Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Directors; Anthony Negbenebor, chair-elect of the board; and Steve Parscale, ACBSP director of accreditation. The ratification of accreditation, which covers a 10-year period, follows an institutional self-study and a site visit by ACBSP officials.

“The pursuit of ACBSP accreditation reinforces the commitment of our accounting and business faculty to continuous quality improvement, student learning, innovation and relevancy,” said Edward A. Henninger, dean of business and computer technologies. “Our accredited status creates greater visibility for Penn College and our programs, and is a source of pride among program faculty and staff.”

It also enables the college to host a chapter of Delta Mu Delta, an international honor society for business, he added.

Penn College offers bachelor’s degrees in accounting and business administration (with concentrations in banking and finance, human resources management, management, and marketing); associate degrees in accounting and business management; and a competency credential in financial planning.

The school additionally is home to the college’s innovative technology management degree, which provides business and management skills to supplement the first two years of study in a student’s chosen technical area. That degree is also offered through distance learning, allowing students who have completed technical associate-degree programs to finish their last two years of a Bachelor of Science degree from home or work.

ACBSP’s mission is to establish, promote and recognize educational practices that contribute to the continuous quality improvement of business-education programs, teaching of business courses, and student-learning outcomes in colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad. ACBSP, which has grown to include 1,097 campuses representing 531 distinct institutions, was established in 1988 and is the only accrediting body for both two- and four-year business degrees.
