Penn College Foundation Celebrates 30th Anniversary

The Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation marked 30 years of supporting Penn College and its students with a recent celebration at the college's Lumley Aviation Center in Montoursville.

The Penn College Foundation was established in 1981 as the Williamsport Area Community College Foundation, with a mission of securing financial and other support for the college.



In remarks offered at the gathering, Penn College Board of Directors Chairman Robert E. Dunham noted that, in 1983, the first year in which the foundation awarded scholarships, the awards totaled $2,902. Dunham said the foundation now has more than $7.5 million under its management and will award more than $360,000 in scholarships to Penn College students in the upcoming academic year.

More than 75 people attended the 30th anniversary celebration, including current and former members of the Foundation Board of Directors, members of the Penn College Board of Directors and the college's Corporate Advisory Board, as well as donors who are members of the college's 1914 Society and Pillar Society.

The crowd included three members of the original foundation board, William D. Davis Sr., George E. Logue Sr. and Peyton D. McDonald; three honorary members of the foundation board, Thomas W. Dempsey, Charline M. Pulizzi and David L. Stroehmann; and four past executive directors of the foundation, Frederick T. Gilmour, Lenore G. Penfield, Dennis L. Correll and Joann M. Kay.

The current executive director of the Penn College Foundation, Robert C. Dietrich, said the June 3 event also raised money for the Foundation Board of Directors Endowed Scholarship Fund. Dietrich said the anniversary celebration raised more than $5,500 for the fund, increasing the balance of the endowment to more than $40,000.

Endowed scholarship funds generate awards from investment earnings on the endowment, and the Foundation Board of Directors Endowed Scholarship has generated nine awards to students since it was established to commemorate the foundation's 20th anniversary in 2001.
