Tournament participants assemble in the CC Competition under wayThe Chess Club, one of Penn College's newest student organizations, held its first-ever tournament Saturday in the Bush Campus Center. Ten players competed through five rounds of chess. When the last round was finished at 3 p.m., the tournament had three champions: Solomon Francis, Open Division; Rob Schlenker, Student Division; and Zach Geffre, 16-and-Under Division. All of the players enjoyed the experience of playing competitive chess in a tournament setting,observed adviser Jim Cunningham, who said the club already is looking forward to holding a similar event toward the end of the Fall 2011 semester.
