College Among Hosts for Health-Care Collaboration

    Students pursuing a variety of health careers at Penn College, The Commonwealth Medical College, Lock Haven University and Wilkes University collaborate during a session at Penn College The Northeastern Pennsylvania Interprofessional Education Coalition, founded by The Commonwealth Medical College, hosted four collaborative seminars April 13 to promote teamwork and gain an understanding of various health professionals' roles in improving quality and safety in patient care. Together, students pursuing a variety of health-care professions collaborated on a case history in Penn's Inn. Sessions also were held at Marywood University, University of Scranton and Misericordia University. The students attending the Penn's Inn seminar hailed from Penn College, The Commonwealth Medical College, Lock Haven University and Wilkes University, and are studying to become nurses, paramedics, radiographers, pharmacists, physicians, occupational therapists and physician assistants, among others. The joint effort is one of the first in the country to introduce the concept of interprofessional education with students from various institutions and health-care disciplines.
