On April 10, Pennsylvania College of Technology will host a session for girls in seventh and eighth grades to encourage an ongoing interest in science and math.

The college's Science and Math Applications in Real-World Technologies (SMART Girls) project was developed to counter the distressing tendency of girls to sidestep math and sciences as they enter adolescence. The program offers a varied schedule of hands-on activities to show the real-life worth of math and science in the career world.

Next month's event includes such topics as architectural technology, radiography, occupational therapy, building construction, drafting and computer aided design, computer science, paramedic technology, horticulture, machine tool technology/automated manufacturing, health science, mathematics, and computer information technology.

Cost for the daylong session, which is open to the first 40 girls who enroll by the March 29 deadline, is $25. To register or to learn more, call 570-327-4502, e-mail or visit online .

The college will host a Saturday session on April 24 for 10th and 11th grades and a summer SMART Girls residential experience from July 11-15 for girls entering ninth and 10th grades.
