Penn College Bowlers Second in EPCC; PCAA Championships Next

The 2009-10 Wildcat bowling team gathers at Faxon Lanes.In their final tune-up before this weekend's state championships, Pennsylvania College of Technology bowlers finished second, fourth and fifth in the Blue Division and second in the Gold Division during the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference Championships on Wednesday.

In action at Summit Lanes in Pocono Summit, Penn College No. 1, which included Wes Moyer (Fleetwood, 527), Bill Staggert (South Williamsport, 598), Aaron Smith (Waynesboro, 619) and Merle Burkhart (Lancaster, 584) combined for a 2,328 to take second behind Lehigh-Carbon's No. 1 squad, which rolled a 2,382.

Northampton Community College No. 1 placed third with a 2,318 and was followed by Penn College No. 2 with a 2,296 and Penn College No. 3 with a 2,069.

Competing for PC No. 2 were Peter Stuut (Radnor, 549), Travis Rupert (Lock Haven, 612), Ryan Forry (Lancaster, 601) and Ty Redman (Williamsport, 534). On the Penn College No. 2 team were Evelyn Furman (Montoursville, 473), David Florist (Horsham, 644), Eric Kennedy (Lewistown, 456) and Ian Hickey (Middleburg, 496). Florist rolled the day's high single game of 266.

In the women's Gold Division, Caitlin Wagner (Northumberland) rolled a 455 for a second-place finish.

The season-ending Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association bowling championships are scheduled Saturday and Sunday at the Moshannon Valley Superbowl in Philipsburg. Action begins at noon Saturday and at 9 a.m. Sunday.
