Penn College Wildcat Tales Basketball Teams Head Into Break Unbeaten in PSUAC Heading into the semester break and the new year, Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball teams are undefeated in Penn State University Athletic Conference play as both the men and women won at Penn State DuBois on Friday.

FlashbackMen's Basketball Joe Simon of Renovo drilled a 3-point shot with four seconds left against Penn State DuBois to lift the Wildcats to an 84-82 win. Penn College had to overcome both a 15-point second-half deficit and a 54-34 rebound disadvantage to gain the victory. Simon finished the contest with 23 points. Greg Solyak (Lititz) scored 27 points, and Leroy Joiner (Williamsport) added 21 points and had 10 rebounds.

Earlier in the week, stepping up at then-unbeaten NCAA Division II Mansfield University and without Joiner, its top scorer and rebounder, Penn College suffered a 103-49 loss. Noah Martz (Bloomsburg) led Penn College in scoring with 10 points and Noor Ford (Williamsport) was tops in rebounds with four. Shooting 57 percent from the floor during the game and hitting 11 of 19 3-point shots, Mansfield opened a 28-9 lead and was on top 50-20 at the half. The Mounties held a 44-20 rebounding advantage and forced 28 Penn College turnovers.

Penn College closed out its week Saturday at Division II Clarion University, where it lost, 110-48. Solyak led the Wildcats in scoring with 16 points and Joiner snared 12 rebounds as their record fell to 3-5 overall. Clarion, which has lost just once in four games, led 55-27 at the half. For the game, Clarion held a 54-32 rebound edge.

Women's BasketballThe Wildcats opened a 33-24 halftime lead against Penn State DuBois and went on for a 67-57 victory. Jess Hohman (South Williamsport) led the team in scoring with 15 points, while Jess Strasser (Hawley) added 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Penn College is 2-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

On the HorizonPenn College teams now are idle until January. On Jan. 2, the men compete in a tournament at Scranton University. On Jan. 14, both the men and women return to action in PSUAC games at Penn State Hazleton. The college's coed bowling team returns to action Jan. 21.
