Penn College Teams Second to None in Athletics
When it comes to all-around excellence, Pennsylvania College of Technology athletic teams are second to none.
In the 2006-07 academic year, for the second consecutive season, Wildcat teams won five conference championships and took two seconds. Overall, they posted 181 wins, 81 losses and had two ties (both in men's soccer), for an outstanding .686 winning percentage.

Wildcat Baseball Team Claims Title; Softball Squad Second

It was "mission accomplished" for the Penn College baseball team Thursday in the Penn State University Athletic Conference championships, but the college's softball team fell just short of its goal. In baseball, the Wildcats of coach Chris Howard edged rival Penn State Beaver, 3-1, at Bowman Field in Williamsport to reclaim the conference crown they last won in 2006. The team completed a 31-13 season, including 19-4 in all conference games. At Williamsport's Elm Park in softball action, the Lady Wildcats needed one win Thursday against Penn State Hazleton to clinch their second straight PSUAC championship, but were swept 11-3 and 10-8 and finished second. PSUAC Baseball, Softball Pairings Announced; Play Begins Wednesday

Penn College baseball and softball teams are seeded Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in their divisions for the Penn State University Athletic Conference championships that get under way Wednesday at Bowman Field and Elm Park in Williamsport. Play is scheduled to be double-elimination, but in the event of rainouts Wednesday, it will become a single-elimination tourney on Thursday. Continue to story
'Senior Day' Observed for Baseball, Softball and Archery Teams

Seniors on the men’s baseball, women's softball and archery teams were honored over the weekend. in the Athletics Department's continuing efforts to recognize graduating members of Penn College's 15 varsity sports. Honored for baseball were Dan Preston, Mike McCloskey, Cody Lytle, Courtney Shreiner, Doug Sponseller and James Woodring; archery, Sarah Wilson; and softball, Ann Marie Prosser, Michelle McNett, Melissa Berrier, Renee Craig, Lauren Fuller and Amber Harry.

A team of Penn College faculty and staff defeated its student counterparts 14-13 Friday in the annual campus softball rivalry. Lisa Worth, athletic assistant, provided this game recap: The student team scored six runs in the first inning and three runs in the third to take a 9-4 lead. In the top of the fourth inning, the bats for the staff/faculty team came alive with six runs on six consecutive hits by Jeremy Bottorf, Mike Paulhamus, Benaiah Tucci, Joe Miller, Joe Simon and Andrew Gutkowski. The staff/faculty team scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The student team rallied for one run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. Students had one more chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, but they went down in order and lost 14-13. Other members of the staff/faculty team were Alison Tagliaferri, Mike Hersh, Katie Greene, Craig Flint and Anthony Sofranek. Student team members were Dereck Smith, Reed Bogosh, Chad Mountcastle, Robert Capella, George King, Joe Caulfield, Nick Bechtel, Pete Rogan, Kat Potocek, Andrew Moore, Angela Charcas and Matthew Weiser.

Penn College Sophomore Completes Boston Marathon

Last November, Penn College sophomore Jeffrey J. Faherty ran his first marathon ever – in Harrisburg. Today, he's savoring the moment of running in – and completing – the Boston Marathon. Faherty covered the 26.2-mile course in 3 hours, 22 minutes April 21. "My seeding number was 4,244 (of more than 25,000 runners), so I was a little more than 4,000 back from the start," he said. "And when we went over crests of hills, just to see all of the heads out in front just bobbing and filling the road, and seeing all of the spectators on the sides cheering you on … You really can’t explain it.
