Campus Roundtable Discussion to Focus on Accounting Profession

Current job opportunities and issues in the accounting field will be among the topics addressed in a discussion sponsored by Pennsylvania College of Technology's Accounting Society and faculty from the college's School of Business and Computer Technologies.
The roundtable will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, in Room E205 of the Breuder Advanced Technology and Health Sciences Center on the college's main campus in Williamsport. While geared toward accounting majors and interested students and faculty, the free event is open to the public.
Panelists will be Lori Moore, owner of Lori Moore CPA; Ben Gair, staff accountant for ParenteBeard LLC.; Bo Hornberger, staff accountant for Klein and Rizzo Inc.; Jerome Floyd, accountant for Susquehanna Health; and Jochen Stein, an accountant from Germany.
Phillip D. Landers, professor of business administration and accounting at Penn College, said the key discussion points will be:
- Considering the current economic climate, what are the job opportunities and issues currently in the accounting profession?
- What did the roundtable participants do to prepare for entry into the accounting profession?
- What should an accounting student do to prepare for entry into the accounting profession?
- What do the roundtable participants see as future strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the accounting profession?
- What are some of the differences between the U.S. and European accounting professions in terms of compensation, education, expectations, certifications and generally accepted accounting principles?
