Student Awarded $2,500 Scholarship From Charitable Trust

A second-year student at Pennsylvania College of Technology majoring in office information technology: medical office information emphasis has been awarded $2,500 from the Bud Lutty Charitable Scholarship Trust.
The scholarship for Kelsey A. Coppersmith, a 2008 graduate of Kane Area High School, is one of 18 awarded for the 2009-10 academic year on the basis of academic excellence, merit and achievement. Since its inception, the trust has funded $730,000 in scholarships to 292 individuals attending colleges and vocational schools.
The trust was established in honor and memory of Anthony J. "Bud" Lutty, a distinguished member and officer of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. Lutty's productive career in retail business and the labor movement spanned nearly 45 years, and he continued to serve the union after retiring by coordinating the UFCW's fundraising activities for its favorite charity leukemia research.
Coppersmith was employed this summer as one of Penn College's Connections Links, orienting incoming freshmen and transfer students, and she served as a member of the Wildcat Welcome Team. She also is a member of the Wildcat Dance Team, treasurer of the campus Health Information Association and is a founding sister of the college's newly formed colony of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority.
