Welcome Weekend gave Penn College the opportunity to greet incoming students, easing them and their families into new surroundings with smiles and helpful advice. Saturday was check-in day, as the college community helped newcomers navigate main campus and take care of last-minute odds-and-ends buying textbooks, opening bank accounts, stocking cupboards, saying "goodbye" before Monday's start of classes. Sunday's activities included Campus Fest, a premier summer event featuring live music, free food, custom T-shirts, face-painting, photo flip-books, games and more. Students also could pick up information as they visited with various college offices and campus organizations, collecting signatures on their way toward qualifiying for a grand prize of $1,000 toward tuition. Sunday afternoon also included valuable information sessions and a chance for students to get further acquainted with new friends in a new home; the evening brought welcoming messages from President Davie Jane Gilmour and other college officials, fireworks and hypnotist Sailesh.
