Winners Announced in Annual Bridge-Building Competition

Gregory E. O'Connor Andrew J. Polski A team of architectural technology students won the 17th annual "Bridging the Gap" competition, with a construction-paper bridge that carried 119.39 times its weight. Team members, whose creation came out on top after Tuesday's weight-bearing tests, are Jared T. Sims, Souderton; Jessica L. Cruise, Scranton; Jason T. Detwiler, Liberty; Gregory E. O'Connor, Islip Terrace, N.Y.; and Brendan J. Kemmerer, Quakertown. The unofficial winner was Andrew J. Polski, a residential construction management-architectural technology major from Chantilly, Va., with a bridge carrying 421.22 times its weight. His 188-gram bridge was over the weight limit of 159 grams, according to Dorothy J. Gerring, associate professor of architecture. The official winners' bridge weighed 142 grams.
