Beginning in June, Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro will offer a new seven-month program preparing students for a career in administrative office practice.

The 600-hour, noncredit administrative office assistant program consists of classroom and computer instruction to prepare participants to perform general administrative, receptionist and office duties in various types of business, industrial and professional offices. A 160-hour externship will be the capstone of the course.

Topics of concentration include: communication skills, advanced computer skills, office equipment, office management, human resources, and job-search skills and career planning. The program is designed to give participants the practical skills needed to keep offices running smoothly and to meet the needs of the constantly-changing office environment.

Employers report a growing need for well-trained administrative assistants and office staff. Following completion of the program, employment may be found in a variety of situations including insurance offices, educational institutions, law offices, banks and financial institutions, real-estate agencies, businesses, human-resource offices, and government.

The North Campus, located three miles east of Wellsboro on Route 6, offers a variety of noncredit classes and programs for residents of the Northern Tier.

Applicants for the administrative office assistant program must have a high school diploma or GED. For more information or an application packet, call the North Campus at (570) 724-7703 or send e-mail.
