College Celebrates Black History Month

February is Black History Month, and Pennsylvania College of Technology is offering an array of free events and activities throughout the month for the college community and the public. The events will begin Jan. 31 with Black History Month displays in the Bush Campus Center.

All events/activities are sponsored by the Student Activities Office at Penn College except for the Feb. 2 program, USA Break Dancers, which is sponsored by the Wildcat Events Board; the Feb. 18 program, "The History of the Williamsport Underground Railroad," which is sponsored by the Multicultural Society at Penn College; and the Feb. 25 program, Ngozi Dancers, which is co-sponsored by the Multicultural Society.

Black History Month Displays
Bush Campus Center, Jan. 31-Feb. 10
Informative displays on important figures in African-American history and important historical events will be available to view.

USA Break Dancers
9 p.m. Feb. 2, Field House
This spectacular show features acrobatic stunts, hilarious antics and the hottest dance moves, all performed to a high-energy blend of disco, funk, hip-hop, old-school rap and classic soul. Sponsored by the Wildcat Events Board at Penn College.

Acoustic Soloist Chinua Hawk
8 p.m. Feb. 7, CC Commons, Bush Campus Center
Hawk always knew he was destined to be a singer. Performing at the Friendship Baptist Church in Trenton, N.J., helped him connect the spirit with his music. He has performed with Celine Dion to a crowd of 30,000 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, written songs with Wyclef Jean and worked in the studio with producer/rapper Kanye West on rapper Talib Kweli's song "Just to Get By."

Comedian Kivi Rogers
9 p.m. Feb. 10, Klump Academic Center Auditorium
Always the class clown, Rogers never thought comedy would be his calling. He earned a degree in electronics and landed a position with a reputable firm. His co-workers convinced him to take his act to the stage, and he won his first comedy competition. Since then, he has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, as well as "The West Wing," "Everybody Loves Raymond," "VIP," "Diagnosis Murder," and "Dharma & Greg."

Reggae Band: Anthem
9 p.m. Feb. 11, Field House
Anthem's live shows are said to rank among the best in the business. From roots to dance hall, Anthem's truly original sound is a treat for all music lovers.

"The History of the Williamsport Underground Railroad"
5 p.m. Feb. 18, Penn's Inn, Bush Campus Center
The presentation, featuring Williamsport native Mamie Sweeting Diggs, will offer the true story of the Underground Railroad through Williamsport that led many slaves to freedom. Sponsored by the Multicultural Society at Penn College.

"The Meeting"
9 p.m. Feb. 21, Klump Academic Center Auditorium
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X met each other before they were assassinated? "The Meeting," winner of six NAACP Theatre Awards, is an entertaining, dramatic and educational depiction of a fictional event.

5 p.m. Feb. 25, Klump Academic Center Auditorium
