Runners/Walkers Support Memorial Scholarship

The family of Allyson Wilgar-Jones attends the 5K held to raise funds for a scholarship in her memory. Runners take off from the starting line at Penn College's main entrance. More than 200 runners and walkers participated in a 5K race on April 9 to benefit the Allyson Wilgar-Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund. The event was held on the Penn College campus and was organized by college nursing faculty, who have formed the Allyson Wilgar-Jones Scholarship Committee. Wilgar-Jones was a nursing instructor at Penn College who died in June 2004 after a brief, intense battle with cancer. She was 45. Thus far, nursing faculty have raised $18,000 through the race, raffle and donations from alumni, faculty and staff for a scholarship to benefit nursing students. This is just $2,000 short of the scholarship committee's goal, which would make the scholarship perpetual. To make a donation, send contributions to the nursing office, DIF 20. Checks should be made to "AWJ Memorial Fund."
