College, Caterpillar Present First 'Pathfinder to Excellence' Award

Pennsylvania College of Technology and Caterpillar Inc. presented the first "Pathfinder to Excellence Faculty Award" recently to a faculty member at the College.
Kenneth C. Kuhns, assistant professor of electrical technology/occupations, received the award during an advisory board meeting at the College.
The honor, which is expected to be awarded annually, is given in recognition of a faculty member who has developed effective teaching techniques, enhanced learning materials, possesses a keen sensitivity to student needs and maintains high academic standards.
In a ceremony at the Thompson Professional Development Center at the College, Kuhns received a commemorative plaque. He also will receive a cash award of $1,000.
Students in the Diesel Equipment Technology programs had the opportunity to vote for the award winner, as did faculty and staff. Kuhns was selected for his outstanding work with the fledgling Electric Power Generation Technology major.
"We are pleased that Caterpillar has given us the opportunity to recognize and reward excellence in education," said Dr. Mary A. Sullivan, assistant dean of natural resources management at the College. "The dedication and commitment shown by Ken Kuhns, and other educators like him, ultimately benefit the entire industry."
