The National Residence Hall Honorary at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently held its inaugural induction ceremony, honoring nine students as founding members and another student and a college employee as honorary members of the organization.

The student inductees are residents of either The Village at Penn College or the Campus View Apartments, the two college-operated student-housing facilities on campus. The chapter is named for Joseph DeFeo, a former residence hall leader.

Each year, the College is authorized by the national organization to induct 1 percent of the on-campus student body (or 15 members, whichever is greater) into the chapter.

To be eligible, students must:

  • Have resided in the on-campus residence halls for at least two semesters prior to the semester of selection
  • Reside in the on-campus residence halls during the semester of selection
  • Have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours and/or one year of living in the on-campus residence halls
  • Be a student in good standing and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade-point average
  • Demonstrate outstanding service and leadership in the residence halls at Penn College

"Members are those students who have shown outstanding service and have provided important leadership in the advancement of on-campus living," said Residence Life Director Steven P. Jacobson. "They also act as a resource for groups desiring information about programming and leadership in the residence halls."

At the recent induction ceremonies, Penn College President Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour praised the students for their accomplishments.

"You represent one group of the best of Penn College students," she told the inductees.

The founding student members of the chapter are: Russell K. Campbell, Meshoppen; Phillip K. Coffman, West Chester; Brian J. Fish, Hawley; Lee R. Gable, Kylertown; Adina J. Klass, Williamsport; Kimberly L. Nalitz, McMurray; Robert P. Schnabel, Shrewsbury; Joseph M. Tertel, Frackville; and Kristy Treweek, Reedsville.

Honorary members inducted into the chapter were Rick English, a student who was instrumental in starting the Residence Hall Association, and Timothy J. Mallery, coordinator of Residence Life at Penn College.

This officers for this year are: Nalitz, president; Fish, vice president; Klass, secretary; and Treweek, treasurer.
