The only thing standing in the way of Pennsylvania College of Technology winning its fourth straight men's soccer championship is Penn State York. The two teams will clash for the Penn State University Athletic Conference title at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jeffrey Field in University Park.
The Outdoor Adventure Club held a "Camping On Campus" event this week, setting up tents in front of the ATHS on Wednesday evening and tearing down Thursday afternoon. Penn College students and pet owners alike showed up for an evening of canine camaraderie and pumpkin carving last week. About 30 students came to carve pumpkins; enjoy pumpkin pie, apple cider and roasted pumpkin seeds; and enter their dressed-up pets in the costume contest.
The winter "Meet the Wildcats Day" was held Wednesday night outside the Susquehanna Room. The men's and women's basketball teams, bowling teams and the Dance Team met with students and staff and distributed their home schedules.
The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "Vessels of Life," an exhibit of mixed-media drawings by Kim Banister, from Nov. 9 to Dec. 2. An opening reception for the exhibit will take place Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 4:30 p.m., with a gallery talk scheduled at 5:30 p.m.
The flag football team from Penn College walked into the GSC Dome not knowing what to expect from its Lycoming College opponent, but walked out with heads held high. Penn College dominated most of the game, but Lycoming scored with 3 seconds left and nipped the Penn College team, 19-18.
Pennsylvania College of Technology's women's soccer team, by virtue of a perfect 4-0 regular-season record in Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference matches, has been awarded its second straight conference championship. The Lady Wildcats totally dominated play in the conference, outscoring opponents Manor College and Reading Community College 28- 1 in home-and-away matches.
Eight returnees and a first-year woman bowler who is putting up numbers as good as the men gives Pennsylvania College of Technology bowling coach Debbie Vincenzes reason to be optimistic. The Wildcats open their season Friday at Summit Lanes in Pocono Summit. "David Florist (sophomore/Horsham) returns and is a much better bowler than he was last year.
Pennsylvania College of Technology's Society of Manufacturing Engineers student chapter recently toured two Pennsylvania companies the Benton Foundry on Oct. 12 and the Perryman Co. on Nov. 2. The Benton Foundry, located about 40 minutes away in Benton, mixes and pours its own compositions of iron and steel according to customer requirements.
