Employers line the campus mall to connect with students during a Sept. 11 Recruitment Day.
Career Services is set to host the last of this semester’s nine Recruitment Days on Oct. 29. Thus far, the events have brought 570 students into contact with dozens of employers who came to campus seeking to connect with students.
The events are mini career fairs, each tailored to a specific cluster of majors. They started Sept. 2 with the Human Services & Restorative Justice Internship & Job Expo and have continued with events for students in automated manufacturing & machining; aviation; baking & culinary; building automation engineering; building construction; civil engineering technology; construction management; diesel truck, heavy equipment & power generation; electrical; electronics & computer engineering; engineering & industrial design; forestry; heating, ventilation & air conditioning; information technology; landscape/plant production; and welding & metal fabrication.
In total, the fall events have featured 120 employer tables – with some employers attending multiple events to reach students. Thirty-three alumni returned to campus to represent their employers.
The semester’s final Recruitment Day is slated to bring 10 employers to the architecture suite (on the fourth floor of the Klump Academic Center) to recruit students in architecture & sustainable design majors.
In support of Penn College’s 98% placement rate, Career Services also hosts fall and spring Career Fairs and Pop-Up Employer Information Tables hosted by individual employers. (Three pop-ups are scheduled the week of Oct. 27.)
The office, housed in the Center for Career Design in the Madigan Library, helps students to prepare for such events with open hours each Wednesday to talk with staff about resumes and cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, networking and more. Also available are mock interviews, business cards, a photo booth for professional portraits, and the Career Gear Clothes Closet, where students can pick up gently used professional attire. Appointments are also available. To contact Career Services, email careerservices@pct.edu or call 570-327-4522.
Recruitment Days will continue in spring, with seven events scheduled. Visit www.pct.edu/careerevents to find upcoming opportunities.
