The loan of a Volvo Construction Equipment excavator to Pennsylvania College of Technology, provided through Highway Equipment & Supply Co., adds another level to the corporate partners’ foundational focus on student success.

As with past loans from the industry leaders, the Volvo EC 220 EL excavator will be put to good use among students at the college’s 125-acre heavy equipment training site in Brady Township, just south of the Schneebeli Earth Science Center.

Gathered in and around a Volvo EC220 excavator on loan for use at Pennsylvania College of Technology's training site are (standing, from left) student Kyle R. Spoor, of Thompson; Ryan W. Peck, diesel equipment technology instructor; Ryan Flood, vice president, Highway Equipment & Supply Co.; and student Julian A. Kendter, of Doylestown. Seated inside is student Collin L. Yetter, of Liverpool. All three students are enrolled in heavy construction equipment technology: operator emphasis.“Our relationship with Highway Equipment & Supply Co. and Volvo CE not only showcases the technology for Volvo and gives students experience with the manufacturer’s technology, but also shows our students what a partnership with business and education can do for them and the workforce,” said Ryan W. Peck, instructor of diesel equipment technology. “It’s a great way to promote the dealer and manufacture brands while investing in the students.”

Highway Equipment & Supply Co., a Corporate Tomorrow Maker, has been investing in Penn College students and programs since 2004, and Volvo has regularly loaned equipment over the past six years. Both are represented on the college’s Heavy Construction Equipment Technology: Technician Emphasis Advisory Committee, a group of industry professionals who provide guidance on curriculum, equipment and employment opportunities for students and alumni.

“The commitment and partnership of Highway Equipment & Supply Co. and Volvo CE are invaluable to our operations students. This loan not only provides learning on the brand-specific technology, but helps expand the experience of our students when they enter the workforce,” noted Elizabeth A. Biddle, senior director of corporate relations. “This has been a long-standing partnership, and we are so grateful for the continued generosity of Highway Equipment & Supply Co. and Volvo CE.”

“Highway Equipment & Supply Co. is pleased to continue the partnership with Penn College through equipment entrustments,” said Ryan Flood, vice president. “Not only does this provide equipment for student skill development, but helps the operations students gain a familiarity with Volvo in efforts to impact brand preference when they enter the workforce. This partnership also highlights Highway Equipment & Supply Co. as a leading employer for technician students to consider. This is truly a mutually beneficial relationship.”
