Austin S. Weinrich Chosen as September 'Student of the Month'
Considered by his student nominator as the "most dedicated person I have ever met," Weinrich serves with the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps, is a member and officer with the Penn College Construction Association, represents the School of Construction & Design Technologies on the Student Government Association Senate, and has been a member of the Wildcat men's cross-country team.
"Ever since I have met him, he has managed to balance the maximum amounts of full-time credits and still easily maintain a superb GPA. For as long as I have known him, I have believed him to be the strongest of role models as I find myself looking to him for guidance within my own life," his nominator wrote. "He continuously wakes up at five in the morning for ROTC physical training, attends a full day of classes, works out a second time later in the afternoon for cross-country, and still manages to attend every extracurricular activity meeting throughout the week."
Weinrich has volunteered on numerous occasions through Army ROTC by attending food drives and raffles, and he committed to being an Army squad leader his freshman year. In that position, the nomination continued, he excelled in leadership skills, waking up as early as 4:30 a.m. to notify cadets of changes or cancellations to their schedules.
"He is as straight as an arrow and deserves the upmost of respect for his commitment to serving the community. I have never met somebody with half of the work ethic of Austin, as every time I see him, he is racing off to another school event or staying awake until midnight to complete assignments that he simply had no time for," his nominator said. "No matter how little sleep he has gotten, Austin pushes through each day with a strength and ease that is rare to come by."
Student of the Month recognition is bestowed by SGA numerous times each academic year based on nominees’ commitment, service, role-model behavior, academics, leadership and campus involvement.
