Penn State Vice Provost Appointed to Penn College Board

Blannie E. Bowen, vice provost for academic affairs at The Pennsylvania State University, has been appointed to the Pennsylvania College of Technology Board of Directors.
Bowen, whose appointment was made by the Corporation for Penn State, succeeds the retiring John J. Cahir, board vice president, who served on the board for 20 years. Penn College is a special mission affiliate of Penn State.
“Blannie brings a wealth of higher education knowledge and experience to our board,” said Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour. “We look forward to his participation and insight.”
Previously at Penn State, Bowen served as head of the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education in the College of Agricultural Sciences. He also held the C. Lee Rumberger and Family Chair of Agriculture and was associate dean and senior faculty mentor in the Graduate School.
In his current position, Bowen works with the university’s provost in areas such as faculty development, leadership training, tenure and promotion, and executive searches and reviews. He also serves as the provost's contact person for the Big 10 Academic Alliance and the University Faculty Senate, and as liaison for the provost and the president to the deans and chancellors.
Bowen holds a doctorate from Ohio State, as well as a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree from North Carolina A&T State University, all in agricultural education.
