Susan Slamka, assistant professor of human services/psychology at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has attained licensure as a psychologist in Pennsylvania and recently completed one year of full-time clinical service at the Children’s Development Center, a division of Hope Enterprises Inc., in Williamsport. The accomplishments were achieved during Slamka’s 2015-16 sabbatical.

Slamka completed the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology and the Pennsylvania Psychology Law Exam, both required for licensure as a psychologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Susan SlamkaPreparation for the exams engages participants in current research in the field of psychology as well as ethical and legal practices. Slamka is sharing this updated information with Penn College students in a variety of psychology and human services classes.

Also enriching the education of her students is the knowledge she gained during her clinical service at the Children’s Development Center, performing a variety of assessments and consultations. Slamka worked with clients from 21 months to 21 years of age with a range of psychological diagnoses and provided supportive feedback and intervention insights to their families.

The educator says another benefit of her term of service outside the classroom was the opportunity to interact with several alumni from Penn College’s human services major. The alumni are working in a wide range of community service capacities.

“It was a source of pride and joy to see alumni from various years thriving in their careers and enjoying their work,” Slamka said.

A native of Danville, Slamka has been teaching at Penn College since 2001. She holds Doctor of Psychology and Master of Arts degrees in clinical psychology, with special focuses on the treatment of children and women’s issues, from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Bloomsburg University. Slamka received the college’s Excellence in Academic Advising Award in 2013.
