Dental Hygiene Director Elected Chair of Local AHEC Board

Shawn A. Kiser, director of the dental hygiene program at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was recently elected chairman of the board of directors for the Northcentral Pennsylvania Area Health Education Center.

“I’m excited to work with Shawn as our new board chair as we continue to grow and support the health and well-being of our rural communities in northcentral Pennsylvania,” said Rebecca Charles, executive director for the center.



Shawn A. KiserThe mission of the Northcentral Pennsylvania Area Health Education Center is to help communities meet their primary health care needs by facilitating the recruitment, retention, education and training of health care providers.

Headquartered in Wellsboro, it serves communities in 10 counties: Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Tioga and Union.

Kiser was elected to a three-year term as chairman. He has served on the board’s personnel committee since 2011.

He holds associate and bachelor’s degrees from Penn College and a master’s degree from Penn State. He earned a graduate certificate in distance education and is a graduate of the American Dental Education Association Allied Dental Leadership Program.

Penn College offers an associate degree in dental hygiene, which can be continued to a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene: health policy and administration. The final two years of the bachelor’s degree may be pursued through online courses on a full- or part-time basis.
