Penn College Garners Trio of ‘CUPPIE’ Awards
The college earned Gold and Bronze CUPPIEs in the Public Relations/Media Relations Feature Article category of the competition, as well as a Bronze CUPPIE in the Photography – News or Feature Photo category.
“Engineered for Success,” a story on alumnus Thomas C. Baloga, retired vice president for BMW of North America, captured the Gold CUPPIE in the Public Relations/Media Relations Feature Article category. Written by Tom Speicher, writer/video editor, the article appeared in the Fall 2013 issue of One College Avenue, the college’s magazine.
In the same category, “Falling in Place,” an article profiling Benjamin M. Schappell, a computer aided product design major who helped to design a local skateboard park, captured a Bronze CUPPIE. The article was authored by Tom Wilson, writer/editor PCToday, and was the fourth CUPPIE he has received for writing. “Falling in Place” also was published in the Fall 2013 issue of One College Avenue.
Another work appearing in the Fall 2013 issue, a wrestling action photo taken by Larry D. Kauffman, digital publishing specialist/photographer, captured a Bronze CUPPIE in the inaugural year for the Photography – News or Feature Photo category.
One College Avenue is edited by Jennifer A. Cline. The graphic designer for the Fall 2013 issue was Deborah K. Peters. Phillip Warner served as web designer.
“The exceptional efforts of these three award winners represent the type of content we strive to produce in each issue of One College Avenue,” said Joseph S. Yoder, public information director. “Their recognition is also a tribute to the students, faculty, staff and alumni whose stories we tell in the publication.”
