Plastics and polymer engineering technology faculty members at Pennsylvania College of Technology have established a scholarship for students enrolled in plastics majors at the college.

The Plastics and Polymer Engineering Technology Scholarship will benefit first-year, full-time students who:

  • Are enrolled in either plastics and polymer engineering technology (Bachelor of Science) or plastics and polymer technology (Associate of Applied Science)

  • Rank in the top 20 percent of their high school graduating class

  • Have scored 1050 or higher in combined math/reading SAT scores

  • Have demonstrated leadership qualities

The scholarship will begin making annual awards in 2013-14 while building to be endowed.

“The Penn College Foundation is appreciative of the plastics and polymer technology faculty for establishing and committing to fund this new scholarship,” said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the foundation. “This scholarship may provide just the little bit of assistance a future student needs to pursue a degree in a field with tremendous career opportunities.”

“The faculty of plastics and polymer engineering technology at Penn College hope that this scholarship will bring a career in the plastics industry to the attention of a high school senior,” said Tim Weston, associate professor of plastics technology and department head.

“The plastics industry is a growing, viable career choice,” Weston added. “We frequently do not have enough graduates to fill the requests of employers looking for our students. It is our hope that this scholarship will bring one more talented individual into our field.”
