Austen M. Kauffman, a pre-emergency medical services student from Myerstown, was part of the crew helping to fight a fire on Elmira Street in Williamsport on Thursday. His photo appeared in Friday's editions of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. Through a "live-in EMT" program at the Willing Hand Hose Co. in Montoursville, Kauffman is among students who live at the firehouse for free in exchange for helping to answer the station's emergency calls. The program is offered at several area volunteer fire companies and is available to any college student who holds emergency medical technician certification.
