Dominating the boards, 72-52, and putting together a strong second half, Penn College turned back Central Penn College, 80-71, in nonconference action at home on Monday. Janna Matzinger, of Coudersport, led the Wildcats’ offense with 20 points while Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, scored 18; Kierstin Steer, of South Williamsport, tallied 15; and Mackenzie Brown, of Lititz, added 13.

Facing conference unbeaten Penn State Brandywine at home Thursday, the Wildcats, sparked by a personal and team single-game, season-high 33 points from Jamie Steer, dropped a 94-88 overtime decision. Penn College came out hot, building a 19-4 lead, and still led 37-35 at halftime. Brandywine fought back to tie the game at the end of regulation, 79-79, and then outscored the Wildcats 15-9 in the OT as Penn College turnovers took a late toll. Matzinger added 19 points and 15 rebounds while Brown scored 14 for Penn College as it evened its Penn State University Athletic Conference record at 4-4.

At home on Saturday, the Wildcats scored the game’s last six points in the final 24 seconds to pull out a 66-60 win over Davis College and improve to 9-8 overall. Matzinger finished with a personal-high 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Jamie Steer and Brown each added 12 points and Kierstin Steer scored 11 in a game plagued by poor overall shooting and turnovers.

Men's Basketball
Turning the ball over 30 times, the Wildcats opened their week Monday with a 94-80 home loss to Central Penn College. Pacing the Penn College offense was Jesse Newman, of Waterfall, and Scott Fenton, of Dickson City, with 18 points each.

Poor shooting from the field (21 of 68) by Penn College on Thursday took its toll in a 92-52 loss to Penn State Brandywine that dropped the Wildcats to 3-15 overall and 2-7 in the PSUAC. Fenton finished the game with 11 points and James Fortenberry, of Lemoyne, added 10.

Wrestling
Four Penn College grapplers participated in preliminary bouts at Lock Haven University on Saturday, but only Paul Crutchlow, of Morris Plains, N.J., was victorious, scoring a 5-2 decision in the 184-pound weight class.

Also, for the second straight week, it was announced that Tyler Myers, of Centre Hall, had been named the PSUAC Wrestler of the Week. Myers went 3-0 with three pins against opponents from Penn State Greater Allegheny, Stony Brook (N.Y.) University and West Chester University. Myers leads the team with a 16-1 record that includes 12 pins. He is nationally ranked No. 4 by the National Collegiate Wrestling Association in the 157-pound weight class.
