Two horticulture students at Pennsylvania College of Technology each received $1,250 scholarships during the Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association Foundation’s recent member-celebration dinner at the Lancaster County Convention Center.

The scholarships were awarded to Samuel W. Hanmer, of Harrisburg, and Jeremy L. Thorne, of Sugarloaf, both enrolled in the two-year landscape/horticulture technology: landscape emphasis major at the college's Schneebeli Earth Science Center.

Bower Jr., a horticulture instructor in the School of Natural Resources Management. "Their leadership, work ethic, and dedication to the program and the industry are just a few reasons they are deserving of this scholarship.”

Bower, a member of the PLNA Board of Directors, accompanied the students to the Nov. 13 event. The Harrisburg-based nonprofit provides resources to encourage research, reward scholarship, and promote the values and benefits of ornamental horticulture.
