The Robert and Maureen Dunham Children’s Learning Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology was recently reaccredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

The Children’s Learning Center provides high-quality, on-campus care and education for the children of Penn College students and employees. It achieved a new, five-year term of accreditation (through December 2017) from the NAEYC Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation.

Reaccreditation by NAEYC requires a self-study report and a site visit. To maintain accreditation, early childhood programs are required to maintain compliance with NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and Accreditation Criteria and to file annual reports.

Since 1985, NAEYC's national, voluntary accreditation system has set professional standards for early childhood education programs and helped families identify high-quality programs for their young children.

The center also recently had its four-star status renewed under the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning’s Keystone Stars system. The system assesses quality in early childhood programs.

Because it holds the four-star status – the highest rating possible – the Children’s Learning Center is eligible each year for a Keystone Stars Merit Award to help maintain and enhance high program quality for the center’s children and parents.

In addition to serving the children of employees and students, the Children’s Learning Center also provides a resource for hands-on learning by students in the college’s early childhood education major.
