Penn College Home to Four More SkillsUSA National Medalists

Friday, August 10, 2012

The Pennsylvania College of Technology contingent at the recent National SkillsUSA Conference in Kansas City, Mo., produced four medalists: two second-place finishers and two third-place winners.

Earning silver medals were Robert T. Berrier Jr., of Lewistown, a computer aided product design major who competed in Technical Drafting; and Aaron C. Dressler, of Mount Pleasant Mills, a collision repair technology student who was among the Auto Refinishing contestants.

Bringing home the bronze were Owen R. Boyle, of Bloomsbury, N.J., in the Collision Repair competition; and Lewis D. Robinson, of Bellefonte, in Culinary Arts. Boyle is enrolled in automotive technology management: collision repair concentration, and Robinson is a culinary arts and systems major.

Four Pennsylvania College of Technology students brought home medals from the latest national SkillsUSA competition.“Penn College is a great college to attend. It should show how effective their teaching is when four of their students are able to reach this point,” said Dressler, of Mount Pleasant Mills. “The Collision Repair Department alone has two students to reach third and second. I think that shows a lot for us students, as well as the department.”

Dressler and Robinson were also medalists in national competition last year; this was Boyle’s second consecutive trip to Kansas City, as well.

Over the years, 98 Penn College students have competed at nationals. This year’s quartet of winners brings the medal total to 31.

The group is co-advised by Edward L. Roadarmel, who retired in June as an assistant professor of drafting and computer aided design; Larry B. Leavitt, associate professor of automotive technology; and Roy H. Klinger, instructor of collision repair. Roadarmel and Leavitt accompanied the students to this year’s national conference.
