Martial Arts Club Hosts Tournament in College Field House

Penn College's Madelyn M. Lanoue, at ease ... ... and in competition at East Coast tourneyPenn College hosted a very successful East Coast Collegiate Karate Union Tournament in the Field House on Saturday. Martial Arts Club members Mathew D. Johnson, Cory L. Buckles, Madelyn M. Lanoue, Kyle M. Zechman and Simranjit S. Mavi competed in kata (forms) and kumite (sparring) against college students from across Pennsylvania, New York and Rhode Island. Participating schools included Drexel University, University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, West Chester University, Penn State University, Nittany Shotokan Karate, Corning (N.Y.) Community College and Salve Regina College (Rhode Island). Competing in the beginners division, Buckles placed first in kumite and third in kata. Next up for the club is the collegiate camp and tournament at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
