Penn College Basketball Teams Drop Only Games of Week

Playing at home on Saturday, Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's basketball teams closed out the fall semester portion of their seasons with losses. Both teams now are idle until early January.

Flashback Men's BasketballThree players scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough to keep the Wildcats from dropping a 105-68 decision to Penn State Beaver. Jason Greenfield, of Wellsboro, scored 16 points; Michael Acquaro, of Oakhurst, N.J., added 12; and Scott Fenton, of Dickson City, scored 11. Bryant House, of Columbia Cross Roads, topped the home team with 14 rebounds as it dropped to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

Earlier in the week, Fenton, a freshman, was named the PSUAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 4. Fenton averaged 18.5 points per game in a 1-1 week including a season-high 22 points against Penn StateMont Alto while helping the Wildcats to their first win of the season. He also totaled 14 rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Women's BasketballKierstin Steer, of South Williamsport, scored 24 points, tying her personal season-high, but Penn College couldn't overcome a poor first half, during which it fell behind by 31 points, as it lost toPenn StateBeaver, 87-56. Carrie Egli, of Picture Rocks, added 10 points for the Wildcats as they dropped to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the PSUAC.

Odds and Ends Through the fall sports seasons, Penn College was ranked No. 5 in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Director's Cup standings with 256 points. Lindenwood University-Belleville was at the top with 432.5 points, followed by Southern Virginia University, 336; Spalding University, 283; and SUNY-ESF, 277. Behind Penn College are New Hampshire Technical Institute, 228; Rochester, Minn., College, 213; SUNY-Canton, 202; Florida College, 201.5; and University of Maine-Fort Kent, 196.5.

The Director's Cup honors member institutions that excel in a wide range of men's and women's sports for which the USCAA offers championships. The cup highlights the efforts of an athletic program to produce a vibrant program, diverse in its offerings, and which competes for national championships on a regular basis. Points are awarded in a declining scale based on finish at USCAA National Championship events. Additionally, each member institution receives five points for each sport offering sponsored by the association.
