Residence Life Honors October's Tops in Student Housing

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Residence Life Office announces its all-star students and programs in campus housing for October.

RA of the Month
Matthew A. Wagner, a building science and sustainable design major from Selinsgrove, was selected as Resident Assistant of the Month.

" This RA continues to do a terrific job of helping residents through roommate conflicts, developing creative bulletin boards, and discussing policies and procedures with residents," staff said of the Lancaster Hall resident. "He is skilled at handling situations that require diplomacy and good interpersonal skills. On top of his normal stellar work, Matt recently went above and beyond in assisting Campus View and Village Resident Assistants with two large-scale Halloween programs."

Rising Star of the Month
Singled out among less-senior RAs was Darren S. Kanagy, a manufacturing engineering technology major from Huntingdon.

"October's Rising Star is the type of Resident Assistant that will help out in any situation. At the same time, he makes academics a priority," staff said of the Campus View staffer.

"He is the first one to volunteer and has a great time doing whatever he puts his mind to. He knows his residents well and he's the first one to help out when they need it. This RA as personally helped with moving and transitioning residents on his floor. He sincerely cares about their well-being.

Most recently, he was instrumental in the success of our 'Week of 1,000 Pumpkins.' He worked tirelessly to put together a large endeavor, and the results were amazing."

Educational Program of the Month
Applauded among the month's notable programs was Adam S. Feather's "Swing Dancing" program, in Campus View.

"This RA worked with dance instructor Tony Thomke to present an educational program on how to dance the East Coast Swing," staff said of the building automation technology major from Bally. "Over 30 residents came out and learned how to dance, while relieving stress and having fun. This program was a winner for a number of reasons: It brought residents out to dance (which is a venture in itself!), it connected the community to the college and Adam completed the program for under $20."

Social Program of the Month
RAs Justin Z. Crider, Kelvin S. Goode and Morris Sayon organized a Halloween costume contest that was picked as October's cream of the crop.

"These RAs worked to bring in a large crowd of ghosts, goblins and even a 'Ham & Egg' costume on Halloween night. The students enjoyed music, pizza and a costume competition," Residence Life staff said. "Congratulations to these RAs, who did an excellent job of keeping the residents entertained and involved on a scary night!"
