Students Zachary D. Derck, a culinary arts and systems student from Northumberland, and Jordan T. Homet, a culinary arts technology student from Granville Summit, recently were provided a back-scenes White House tour by a military representative. The students were accompanied by Samuel A. Morgante, executive chef of Dining Services at Penn College and a former Navy and White House chef. Their tour included the West Wing, the Navy Mess (President's Dining Rooms), the Press Room and the outside grounds. According to Morgante, such a tour is only authorized for current White House staff or former members of the administration. Morgante arranged the tour in return for Derck and Homet's volunteerism at a recent military member-recognition event in State College.
