Culinary Arts Student Receives Scholarship
A Pennsylvania College of Technology freshman was awarded a scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation.
William R. Hagen, of East Stroudsburg, received a $1,000 Lodging Management Program Competition Scholarship from the foundation, which is the not-for-profit, charitable-giving and fundraising affiliate of the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
Hagen is pursuing an associate degree in culinary arts technology at Penn College. In April, while a student at Monroe Career & Technology Center in Bartonsville, he was part of a team that won the national title in the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute's National Lodging Management Program Competition, earning him the scholarship.
The three-day Orlando, Fla., competition, in which 13 high schools participated, challenged students to real-life working experiences in a hotel.
This year, 292 students received scholarship awards totaling more than $400,000 from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation.
Scholarship recipients are invited to join the foundation's Scholars Alumni Association and gain a free student membership with the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
