We are what we eat, or so the saying goes. Many of us care dearly about what we feed ourselves and our loved ones. We see organic fruits and vegetables for sale, but we also notice that organic producesometimes costs significantly more than non-organics. And so we wonder which type to buy. To help with that decision, the Environmental Working Group provides a "Shopper's Guide to Pesticides." This guide is based on the results of extensive testing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration from 2000-07. Note that certified organic foodcannot be guaranteed to be free of pesticides. This week's "green tip" is provided by Penn College's Energy Conservation Subcommittee. More about the EWG guide is available online, as is additional USDA information about organic farming.
