Mathematics Faculty Present at National Conference

Six members of Pennsylvania College of Technology's mathematics faculty recently offered presentations at the annual conference of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.
The conference, held in Washington, D.C., Nov. 20-23, featured more than 200 workshops and presentations for approximately 1,200 mathematics educators from the United States and Canada.
Edwin G. Owens, assistant dean of integrated studies-liberal arts, and Joanna K. Pruden, assistant professor of mathematics, presented "A Multiple Measures Approach to Mathematics Placement."
Sandy Carlson, assistant professor of mathematics, teamed with Owens to present "Development of a Web-based Placement Exam."
Pruden, with Lauren Gordon, assistant professor of mathematics; LeAnn M. Henry, instructor of mathematics; and Diana L. Kuhns, assistant professor of mathematics, presented "A Way to Help Students Read and Understand Their Math Textbooks."
The American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges is the only organization exclusively devoted to providing a national forum for the improvement of the instruction of mathematics in the first two years of college.
