Graphic Communications Management Major Earns Accreditation
The graphic communications management major at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently was awarded national accreditation by the Accrediting Council for Collegiate Graphic Communications.
The council conferred the award on Sept. 9, after reviewing an extensive self study by graphic communications faculty and staff and conducting a detailed visit by a team of industry and education experts to validate the major's academic rigor and student-centered outcomes.
Only four other programs in the nation have received such distinguished recognition from within the graphic communications industry.
The award was presented to Thomas R. Tyberg, assistant professor of graphic communications, and James R. Lentz, associate professor of graphic communications, who represented Penn College at the Graph Expo in Chicago, where the award was presented. Graph Expo is the largest annual graphic communications exposition in the United States.
Attending the expo with Tyberg and Lentz were Penn College graphic communications management students Vanessa R. Hinman, of Mill Hall; Kimberly F. Hummel, of Stow, Ohio; Brock C. Lichtenfels, of Robinson; Alaina S. Mayberry, of Wilmington, Del.; Sara M. Ulrich, of Allenwood; and Jessica E. Verdon, of Madison Township.
The Accrediting Council for Collegiate Graphic Communications is an independent body under the secretariat services of the Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation, a world-renowned research and education foundation focusing on the graphic arts.
Penn College's graphic communications management major was critically evaluated and found to excel in 14 areas: mission statement, goals and objectives, governance/administration, financial support, equipment and facilities, staff support services, curriculum, instruction and evaluation, internship/practicum/cooperative education, industry advisory committee, faculty, faculty evaluation, student records and advising, and graduate placement and followup.
