Palliative Health Care Focus of Nov. 2 Conference

"Perspectives in Palliative Care," a conference for health-care professionals, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, in Pennsylvania College of Technology's Field House on the main campus in Williamsport.

The conference co-sponsored by Evangelical Community Hospital, Susquehanna Health System and Penn College will review the concept of palliative care and hear updates from professionals in the field. Topics will include pediatric care, cultural and spiritual concerns, and care-giving considerations.

Scheduled speakers are Susan M. Huff, director of Pediatrics at Home, a pediatric home-care program of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and pediatric palliative care specialist for the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization; Dr. Alexander R. Nesbitt, medical director of Susquehanna Health System's Hospice and Palliative Care Program; the Rev. Wayne Lupole, an ordained Lutheran pastor with 13 years' experience as a hospice chaplain, now serving Christ Church in Hazleton; and Karen Clark, who provides health care to hospice inpatients by managing symptoms related to end-stage diseases.

The cost of the conference is $45; continental breakfast and lunch are included.
