Students Earn Silver Medals at SkillsUSA Championships
Two Pennsylvania College of Technology competitors took home second-place medals in the national SkillsUSA Championships held recently in Kansas City, Mo.
The SkillsUSA Championships showcase the best career and technical students in the nation, with more than 4,000 participants competing in 75 separate events.
The silver medalists for Penn College and their competition categories are: Joshua W. Hunsberger, Pottstown, Technical Drafting; and James N. Colton, Canton, Welding.
Ten other Penn College students competed at the national championships, having won that right by earning first-place medals at the Pennsylvania SkillsUSA-VICA Conference in Lancaster earlier this year. Those students' competition categories and names and addresses are:
Architectural Drafting: Michael D. Powell, Gansevoort, N.Y.; Automated Manufacturing Technology: Steven L. Grimm, Selinsgrove, Joseph A. Hauser, Latrobe, and Christopher B. Israel, New Bloomfield; Diesel Equipment Technology: Doyle R. Hostetter, Rockwood; Electronics Application: Christopher C. Clugston, Slatington; Electronics Technology: Bruce A. Stephens, Curwensville; Extemporaneous Speech: Jennifer R. Brinkley, Worthington; HVAC Technology: Jeremy D. Dille, Industry; Plumbing: Jason Q. Carrasquillo, Birdsboro.
The faculty advisers who accompanied the Penn College SkillsUSA-VICA student competitors to Kansas City are Edward L. Roadarmel, assistant professor of drafting and CAD technology; and Dale J. Kissinger Jr., instructor of HVAC technology/plumbing and heating.
SkillsUSA-VICA is a national organization serving 250,000 high-school and college students and professional members in training programs for technical, skilled, health and service occupations. The stated goals of the SkillsUSA Championships are to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers' needs.
