In GLB270: European Sustainable Building, Historical Architecture and Art, you'll enjoy the ultimate immersive learning experience. Explore historical and modern European architecture in your initial coursework. Consider design from artistic, architectural, cultural, and sustainable perspectives. And take what you've learned on a 12-day trip to Spain where you'll see first-hand a curated collection of history's magnificent masterpieces and today's impressive sustainable designs.

Itinerary*

  • Depart for Madrid, Spain
  • Guided tour of the Palacio Real, built on the site of the former Alcazar and considered by many to be one of the finest palaces in Europe.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant.
  • Continental Buffet Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Architecture walking tour that includes: Museo ABC, Plaza Mayor, Puerte del Sol, and CaixaForum. 
  • Guided tour of Retiro Park.
  • Dinner on your own.

 

  • Continental Buffet Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Transfer to Toledo, former home of the painter, El Greco.
  • Upon arrival, meet a local guide for a half-day walking tour including visits to the Church of San Tome and Synagogue of Santa Maria la Bianca.
  • Enjoy some time on your own before continuing on to Granada. 
  • Dinner on your own.

 

  • Continental Buffet Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Guided walking tour through the Moorish Quarter, the Albaicin, one of the oldest quarters in the city. Stroll the narrow, cobbled streets to see the cármenes (Moorish-style houses) and enjoy views of the Alhambra from Mirador de San Nicolas.
  • Enjoy the remainder of the day and dinner on your own.

  • Guide visit to the Alhambra and Generalife.

  • Journey to Seville, with a stop in Cordoba to visit La Mezquita, the Mosque-Cathedral which has expanded and evolved since the 8th century (audio-guides included).
  • Half-day guided walking tour of Seville. Highlights include: the Gothic cathedral (third largest Christian church in Europe,) the adjoining Giralda Tower (once the minaret of the Great Mosque in Seville,) and the Barrio de Santa Cruz or Old Jewish Quarter.
  • Dinner on your own.

  • Guided tour of Real Alcazar, built in the 1360s for Pedro the Cruel of Castile
  • Short walk to the Plaza de Espana, the Venice of Seville. Enjoy a guided tour followed by time at leisure in Maria Luisa Park.

  • High-speed train to Barcelona
  • Private guided tour of Barcelona Pavilion, designed by Ludwig Mies vander Rohe and Lilly Reich as the German national pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition.

  • Guided walking tour of the Barrio Gótico, the fascinating medieval quarter representing many centuries of Spanish architectural history.
  • Visit the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar and Antoni Gaud 's greatest and most enduring masterpiece, La Sagrada Familia, which is still not fully complete.

  • Guided tour of Park Guell, one of Antoni Gaudi’s most stunning works.
  • Tour of Casa Batllo, considered Gaudi’s masterpiece (audio guide included.)
