Kim Mains

Kim Mains joined the Penn College Counseling Services staff in the spring semester of 2025. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, having earned a Bachelor of Social Work at Lock Haven University and a Masters of Social Work from Marywood University. Mrs. Mains brings over two decades of experience in behavioral health and grief counseling to her role as a college counselor at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Before joining the counseling team, she worked extensively in behavioral health rehabilitation services, specializing in supporting children and young adults with complex behavioral challenges and autism. She also served as a grief counselor with Family Hospice and started a butterfly release in memory of those we have lost.

Her area of professional interest includes working with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, interpersonal and communication difficulties, low self-confidence, and challenges with academic effectiveness. She is especially compassionate about supporting students as they navigate the many transitions that come with this life stage. Her background in hospice grief counseling uniquely positions her to offer compassionate care to individuals navigating profound loss. Drawing from cognitive-behavioral therapy, strengths-based model, and solution-focused approaches, Mrs. Mains emphasizes individuals’ strengths while helping them build new tools for growth and resilience.
